Backgammon is an ancient Eastern game. The country of origin of this game in unknown, but it is well known that people have been playing this game for more than 5 thousand years of which there is a historic proof. The oldest of backgammon boards was found in Little Asia and is dated about 3000 B.C. Similar game was also found in the tomb of pharaoh Tutankhamen (XV B.C.)
One of the old legends tells us that once upon a time Indians decided to check how smart the Persians are and sent them the chess set, thinking that they will not understand how to play this clever game. But a Persian Wiseman had not only understood how to play it, but also invented his own game which the Indians could not figure out how to play for 12 years.
He invented and sent his opponents a new game – backgammon (a battle on a wooden board).
In Western Europe the game became widespread after the crusaders’ return from the crusades of XII century. Only the noblemen of the highest levels had a privilege to play backgammon.
Nowadays backgammon game is popular all over the world.
